Permits in Olympic

Backcountry overnights need a permit — day hiking doesn't. Here's what you need and when to apply.

Permits & Reservations

Permits for Olympic

Olympic has no timed-entry permit as of 2026 — day hiking in all zones is walk-up. The one permit you need is the wilderness permit for overnight backcountry camping. High-use zones like the Hoh River Trail, Seven Lakes Basin, and High Divide require reservations through Recreation.gov in summer; lower-demand areas offer self-issue permits at trailhead stations. Call the Wilderness Information Center in Port Angeles for current availability before committing to a specific area.

Permit listings sourced from the Recreation Information Database (RIDB). Confirm current dates, fees, and how to apply on Recreation.gov or at the park before you go — some permits are first-come or issued in person.
